Staff changes - February 2024

We’ve had some staff changes in the Volunteering and Community Networks Team that we wanted to let you know about.

Sam Walker, Executive Director of Services Support, leaves us on 9 February after more than six years at the MS Society. Sam has decided to take some time out before taking on her next challenge. We’re delighted that Gavin Atkins has just joined us as interim cover. Gavin has spent the last 11 years at the mental health charity, Mind, and has recently stepped down as their Associate Director of Communities.

David Light, Head of Volunteering and Community Networks, left in early January after almost 12 years at the MS Society. David started as a Local Support Development Manager and became Head of Community Networks in 2020. This role was later expanded to incorporate volunteering across the MS Society. David has decided to take a break whilst deciding what to do next.

Kim Yallop left the MS Society after 15 years at the end of last year. Kim worked for many years in our regional support teams, first as an Area Manager, then as a Local Networks Manager providing help and guidance for our local groups. Since 2020, Kim has been leading our Policy and Performance Team. Recruitment for her replacement is ongoing.

Our Volunteering Operations Manager left the MS Society in December. Some of you may have worked with him on updating the RVI process and developing the Volunteer Impact Award recognition scheme.

We wish them all the very best of luck in their next adventures, and we look forward to introducing new members of the team once they’re in post.

Please rest assured that we’ll do all we can to minimise disruption to volunteers during this time. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we’re in the recruitment process.

As always, the Volunteer Support Team (VST) are the first point of contact for any day-to-day needs you might have. You can contact them on [email protected] or on 0300 500 8084, option #3.
