Making plans in case of emergency is really important and can reassure carers that the person they care for will be receive appropriate care and support should they not be in a position to be able to provide it themselves.
Every carer who has a carers assessment should be asked about emergencies, and social services should offer help with planning for them.
Local emergency schemes
Many areas have local emergency schemes in place. These often take the form of carer emergency card schemes. On registration with a scheme, a skilled worker will help the carer make an emergency plan that is then kept on record.
