Carers Week 2013: Are you prepared to care?

Carers Week is upon us and this year’s campaign is bigger and better than ever. The MS Society is proud to support Carers Week alongside other major national charities including Carers UK, Carers Trust, Age UK, Parkinson’s UK, Macmillan, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Stroke Association and Independent Age.

This year the theme for Carers Week is "Prepared to Care?"

Here are some ways you can get involved and support Carers Week 2013:

Find out what’s going on near you

Over 2,500 organisations have registered to hold a local event this year, a record number. The Carers Week website has a map of all the events, which you can search to find out what’s happening in your area. If you’re not planning to hold an event, why not find out what else is going on and go along?

Share your photos from events with us on social media.

Get active on social media

If you use Facebook or Twitter, show you’re Prepared to Care? by supporting the campaign online. You could:

  • Share our Facebook posts

  • Read carers’ blogs

  • Watch our video of Emily who cares for her father

  • Tweet using the hashtags #preparedtocare and #everydayiamacarer (or retweet our tweets)

  • Join the Prepared to Care? online gallery – print off a placard, take a photo of yourself holding it and post it online.

Ask your MP, MSP or Assembly Member to pledge their support

First, check whether they have already provided a statement of support. If they haven’t, write to or email them using the template on this page (this page can also help you find your local elected member.)
