MS Society Group of the Year 2018!

Hosted by BBC Radio 1 DJ and MS Society Ambassador Scott Mills, the MS Society Awards is always a very special event. We honour inspirational volunteers, fundraisers, carers, professionals, researchers and journalists from across the UK!

This year our Northamptonshire and District group became our MS Society Group of the Year. The group was formed in 2016 following a merger between groups in Northampton, Kettering, and Market Harborough, and now has 20 passionate volunteers. They work across the county to establish new partnerships and plan with health professionals how best services and support can be delivered across the region.

The group produces a newsletter, is active on social media, has launched a YouTube channel and organises two annual events. It runs exercise classes, benefits information meetings, fundraising activities and coffee and lunch sessions.

In 2017 the group established a partnership with Central and East Northamptonshire Citizens Advice Bureau to provide independent and confidential advice to people affected by MS.

Lisa Weaver, a volunteer with the group, says “It’s so amazing to win this award. It means a lot to us to know that we’re doing a good job. Everyone works so hard pitching in together, so to get this recognition is just fantastic.”
