It's Volunteers' Week!

It’s Volunteers’ Week 2020!

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make to communities and causes across the UK, through volunteering.

It’s a time for us to recognise and appreciate the commitment you make to those who need support the most.

The MS Society was created by volunteers in 1953 and our volunteers are more important than ever. Across the many volunteer roles you take on, you give reliable information, facilitate physical and social activities, campaign on things that matter, fundraise, provide emotional support and most importantly, ensure that no one faces MS alone.

It’s important to add that, particularly during the last few challenging months, the impact you have on people living with MS cannot be understated, and we simply could not do what we do without you.

Your stories

Throughout this week, we want to highlight the impact MS Society volunteers make on our community. We have loads of stats and data on the number of services and activities you deliver, but it's stories of human contact and interaction that best describe the role you play in making sure no one faces MS alone.

We will be releasing a story every day between 1 and 7 June, showcasing how our volunteers support communities and individuals. We hope you will enjoy reading them.

  1. 7 June: Team sports and talking therapies help me live life to the full.

  2. 6 June: Finding the volunteers at my local MS Society group turned my life around. Then I met Wendy. It was fantastic.

  3. 5 June: Volunteer Susannah picked me up when I was in a very dark place.

  4. 4 June: MS Society volunteers are helping me get back on my motorbike.

  5. 3 June: Soulla’s son Chris has MS. Thanks to their local MS Society group they have the help and support they need.

  6. 2 June: Volunteer Vicki talks about how volunteering for us helps with her wellbeing.

  7. 1 June: MS Helpline volunteer David talks about why he became a volunteer and how he’s been helping people during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Volunteers’ Week 2020

Please keep an eye on our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram), where we’ll be posting stories to demonstrate the impact you make through your volunteering, both with individuals and in the wider community. Towards the end of the week we’ll also be sharing videos of some of our ambassadors expressing their gratitude towards volunteers too.

Let us know how you’re celebrating Volunteers’ Week with your families or each other. Please send pictures of your activities, celebrations or stories about your volunteering to us via our Twitter channel @MSSociety and use the hash tags  #MSSVolunteers #VolunteersWeek, or email them to us at [email protected]

Thank you

On behalf of the entire MS Society, please accept our sincere gratitude for everything you are doing to help us deliver for people with MS, every day.
