An update from the Finance Team

The Finance Team are working hard to process outstanding payments to our groups. These will be made later this month.

Annual payment to groups in lieu of previous membership subscriptions

We used to ask people to pay to become members of the MS Society. But we don’t want money to be a barrier for anyone who wants to join our community.

If people want to support our work, we now encourage them to make a donation or they can subscribe to MS Matters to find out more about our work.

One of the consequences of this change is that groups will no longer receive membership subscriptions and, potentially, the additional donations received with a subscription payment. As a result, we will compensate groups with a payment based on the yearly average of subscriptions and supplementary donations received between 2017 and 2019. You’ll receive this as one sum which will be paid during week commencing 17 May.

Local groups are a key part of delivering vital services and support locally, and building the MS community. We are committed to providing the equivalent funding for three years and will work closely with groups, so they don’t lose out in the longer term.

As donations restricted to groups will continue to be paid in addition to this payment, we believe the loss of income will be covered.

Donation payments to groups

We apologise to those groups who have experienced delays in receiving donations due to be processed this year. This is as a result of changes to our processes and staff in 2020. We’re working hard to make sure all donations are allocated to groups and payments are made as quickly as possible. The next payment to groups will be made on Friday 21 May by BACS. This will include:

  • Donations earmarked for groups but paid to the central account, up to March 2021

  • Legacy Payments

  • Membership payment (as above)

The next batch of payments after that will be on Friday 9 July for donations made between April and June 2021.
