We know there are many different ways to engage with communities in person and online. And knowing how to be inclusive of everyone can be overwhelming.
So, we've created two new learning modules with useful ideas and resources to help you build on what you’re already doing to create welcoming spaces for all.
Creating inclusive communities
If you’d like some tips and ideas on how you could reach a wider audience, check out our new training module ‘Creating inclusive communities’.
This short course takes you through what you can expect from us and the policies we have to support you. It’s not must-do training, but you’ll find lots of useful ideas and resources to help you create welcoming spaces for everyone.
We want everyone to feel able to bring their 'whole' self to their volunteering. And feel confident in supporting others to do the same.
During the training we:
explain Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
explore the Equality Act of 2010
give examples of how we can all encourage EDI
discuss how to challenge bias
reflect on having sensitive conversations
explore important policies and procedures
share where to get help and support

You can access the interactive training here. It should only take 20-25 minutes to complete.
A practical guide to making your social media welcoming to all
Social media is an invaluable tool to reach new communities. But how do we keep those communities coming back so we can build long-lasting relationships with them?
As an additional resource, we’ve taken a closer look at how you can apply EDI principles to your social media content to become more welcoming to everyone.
'A practical guide to making your social media welcoming to all' has been split into individual sections, so you can dip in and out of what you need, at a time that suits you. And you don’t need to have completed ‘Creating inclusive communities’ to access it.
During the course we:
explain what EDI means and why it’s important
show how applying EDI principles to your social media content can build connections with new and existing audiences
look at ways to challenge your thinking before posting content online, to ensure you’re being as inclusive as possible
Access the training here
You can access the interactive training here. It should only take around 25 minutes to complete.
We’ve also added it into the Social Media Toolkit for Volunteers so you can find all things social media in one place!
Feedback
All of our training is created to be as user-friendly and accessible as possible. But we’re always interested to know if there’s something we can improve on. Please do fill in the short feedback forms at the end of the training modules to share your feedback.
