Message from Davinia Green, Head of Community Services

My name is Davinia (Dah-vin-e-ah) Green and I’m the new Head of Community Services. I’m originally from London but have lived in Wales for over 10 years, so helô or shwmae pawb to all the Welsh readers!
I joined the organisation about a month ago following a career break to focus on some studies and consultancy work around inclusion.
I have over 25 years' experience of working within the charity sector. Prior to my career break, I was Director of Wales for an LGBTQ+ organsation. I worked with communities and influential stakeholders to address and challenge barriers to social inclusion. Before this I worked in a range of charities, such as Stroke Association, Alzheimer’s Society, Macmillan and Breast Cancer Care (Now). I primarily worked in roles which sought to understand and overcome the barriers that different groups and communities had to accessing health resources and information.
Over the years, I’ve been privileged to work with some amazing people across the UK, and a lot of very passionate and committed volunteers. I’ve always wanted to work with the MS Society, as I was involved in some collaborative working with the organisation early on in my career. It left me with a lasting impression of how dedicated both staff and volunteers are to championing the work of the organisation and supporting people with MS.
The role of Community Services
In the new MS Help structure, I oversee the Community Services Team. My team is responsible for supporting local and regional MS services, including volunteer and group-led services and services partnerships. I want to ensure our community services and support are as impactful as possible and respond directly to the needs of the MS community.
I’m really pleased to be in a position where I’ll be able to build upon the incredible things our volunteers and groups already do, so together we can reach many more people.
Community Support Managers and Community Support Senior Officers within my team will work in co-ordination with their counterparts in Community Development. Together, they’ll form regional MS Help Teams. One of the key benefits of these teams is that we’ll be able to provide our volunteers with a stronger, more joined up level of support and more opportunities to connect with each other.
Looking ahead
One of my focusses now is working with the team to organise some MS Help events for our volunteers. These will be a chance for you to come along, meet your MS Help Teams and learn more about MS Help. We’ll be sharing more information on these soon!
Whilst I’m based in Wales, I’m eager to meet some groups farther afield over the next 12 months, so I can learn more about what you do and the challenges you face. If you have any events or activities planned that I could join, please let me know by contacting [email protected] .
I look forward to working with you!
