Record numbers of shining stars!

2022 - we've launched our new volunteer recognition programme, Impact Awards, which has replaced Shining Stars. For more information, please visit the MS Society website by clicking this link.

We know volunteers don’t give their time to get awards, but as volunteers are so integral to achieving our mission and our goals, it’s important to recognise and celebrate the impact you make every day in the lives of other in the MS community.

Nominations for Shining Stars can be submitted by anyone (any staff member, volunteer or service user). And last year 114 of you received awards based on nominations from those who see the passion and commitment you’ve shown.

Hearing from you

Dorothy, volunteer and Shining Star recipients said:

“I do not volunteer to be rewarded for it, but that sort of acknowledgement is a great bonus and make you feel very positive about everything that you do. Everyone likes to be appreciated and I am honoured that I get that from my peers and staff members at the MS Society”.

We love nothing more than hearing about the fantastic things that MS Society volunteers do, so we are hoping for another great year of volunteering recognition. With the Volunteers Week coming up in June, why not start thinking about nominating someone for a Shining Star.

Send a nomination

Everything you need to know about the process is on the volunteer website here, but if you would like to talk to someone about it please get in touch with our Volunteering Team via email or phone: 0300 500 8084

Other ways to say thanks

Shining Stars are our predominant way to say thanks. And they’re an integral part of our volunteer recognition, recognised by staff and volunteers all around the UK.

We do also have other methods of recognition. Thank You cards are a quick and easy way to show your appreciation and our Certificates of appreciation are a great way to acknowledge volunteer contributions to your group. Thank you cards and certificates are available via web-to-print.

We’ve recently been reviewing our volunteer recognition offer to make it more attractive, consistent and coherent across the organisation. We have consulted with some volunteers and other organisations already and some ideas we’re considering are: length of service awards, aligning with our values, developing regional events and digital recognition.

If you’d like to be involved in shaping our work on improving volunteer recognition, please email The Volunteer Engagement and Comms Team.
