January 28 is Data Protection Day

We realise you probably don’t mark Data Protection Day in your calendar, so it slips away unnoticed. But it’s a yearly reminder of the importance of keeping data safe and secure. Of only using it fairly and in the way we said we would. And of letting people know where they can find out more, or change the way we use their data.

So, to mark the day, why not complete at least one task from the list below before the end of the month? By doing this, you’re committing to the responsibility we all share to keep people in our MS community and their personal data safe.

  • Clean up your autofill ‘To’ field to remove personal and old contact emails.

  • Delete old messages from your inbox. If you need to keep personal data for legal reasons, such as Health and Safety requirements, move it into a secure folder.

  • Change your password to something strong and secure.

  • Refer to the Sending Email Communications Checklist before you press ‘Send’.

  • If you need to complete our GDPR eLearning module as part of your volunteering role, do so as soon as possible.

  • Keep up with the latest advice and must-do information by reading the volunteer e-newsletter.

  • Finally, don't forget to clear your desk, lock away or shred any printed material, and shut down your laptop.

As always, do contact [email protected] for more information on any of the topics above. Or if there’s something else related to data protection you’re unsure about.
