Single release aims to raise vital funds and awareness

We’re really excited a single is being released to raise money and awareness for us and Overcoming MS. It’s been created by the classical music composer, Fabio D’Andrea. The music video that goes with it stars our supporter, the Game of Thrones actress, Rose Leslie. (Photo credit: Ralu Chase)

Some of the profits from the downloads of the classical track, Hope Reborn, will be split between the two charities. We hope the film that goes with it will help to increase understanding of the realities of living with MS.

Updating your group’s ‘Near Me’ page

Your group’s ‘Near Me’ page on the MS Society website will be the first thing many people come across when searching for support in their area.

You can find your group’s ‘Near Me’ page by searching the name of your group in the search bar on the MS Society website. Here’s an example of a group’s ‘Near Me’ page.

Each ‘Near Me’ page can include:

  • a description of your group

  • a contact number and email address for your group

How to join weekly Zoom drop-in sessions with VST — including a monthly drop-in with our Health & Safety Officer

Updated in July 2023

The Volunteer Support Team (VST) runs weekly drop-in sessions on Zoom. These sessions run between 2-3pm every Tuesday and are hosted by one of our Volunteer Support Officers (VSO). You don’t need to book a space — just pop into the session when it suits you by using the Zoom details below.

What are the sessions for?

These sessions are an opportunity for you to catch up briefly with a VSO. You may just want to pop in to say hello, but you can also discuss any issues you have, ask questions or request specific information.

Keeping our data safe – Final deadline for GDPR training

In March 2022 we started rolling out mandatory GDPR eLearning to relevant volunteers. This training is required for anyone who has access to personal data in their role, either online or on paper. You can find the list of roles requiring GDPR training here.

GDPR training is also required for a volunteer in any role who has access to MS Society systems, including the Portal and MSS email.

Deeper Conversations - New eLearning module launched

We’ve all experienced the feeling of knowing that an upcoming conversation is going to be difficult. That we need to address uncomfortable issues in order to resolve a situation. Some of our Group Coordinators have said they’d find a resource to help with this really useful.

Volunteer at an MS Walk in 2023

MS Walks are back for 2023, returning to Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, London and Manchester.

Join an MS Walk near you and sign up to be an MS Superstar volunteer, supporting everyone who's walking, rolling and strolling to stop MS. You'll be part of an incredible team of volunteers who will be helping to make our MS Walks bigger and better than ever.

Roles include:

General Volunteer - If you just want to get involved and aren’t worried about what jobs you're given, this is the role for you.

Welcoming new volunteers

We’re always looking for new ways to improve the induction experience for new volunteers. First impressions are so important. We want new joiners to feel connected to the organisation from the start, clear about their roles and empowered to succeed.

As we dive into 2023, we hope this will be a year to attract many enthusiastic new volunteers. And we’ve made some changes to streamline and clarify the induction process for them.

Urgent reminder to complete GDPR training

GDPR training is important and relevant if you’re in a role that has access to personal data. Having access to personal data could mean using online systems such as the Portal or an MS Society email account. But it also includes simpler, paper-based, activities such as recording attendees’ names, addresses and phone numbers at the start of an event.
