Protecting your Facebook page or group

We’ve been contacted by some local groups about their Facebook pages and groups being disabled by Facebook.

Unfortunately, the MS Society can’t challenge Facebook’s decision to disable pages/groups. Your local group’s Facebook admin will have to do this directly from the page/group in question.

Frustratingly, Facebook uses artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the site. Occasionally it seems to flag pages/groups where there’s no obvious cause for concern.

However, there are certain things you can do to lower the chance of your page/group being disabled.

MS Society Designs is back with a new look!

In May, we let you know we were making some changes and improvements to our MS Society Designs service. We’re pleased to let you know we’ve now launched the updates and it’s all systems go!

MS Society Designs is a free service for local groups to create bespoke branded materials, so together we can build awareness of the MS Society. And promote the fantastic things you do to support the MS community in your area.

The 2024 General Election - Campaigning toolkit for local groups

The UK General Election is on Thursday 4 July 2024. It’s an opportunity for us to campaign on the issues that matter most to people living with MS. And to engage with candidates across all political parties. We’re asking all our volunteers and local groups to make sure every candidate knows how they can speak up for MS, if they’re elected.

Getting our voice heard in the UK General Election

The UK General Election is on Thursday 4 July. It’s an important opportunity to get our voice heard, and to make sure MS is on the agenda of every candidate.

If you’re planning any campaigning during this election period, do remember that the Lobbying Act sets rules around what charities can and can’t do. The MS Society is always politically neutral. But we need to take particular care during this time to ensure that any involvement we have with political parties is balanced.

The Lobbying Act — What you need to know for a General Election

Now that the UK General Election has been called, political parties have entered campaign mode. Candidates all over the UK are setting out their positions on a range of issues to win votes. The Lobbying Act sets additional rules around what charities can and can't do during an election period.

Today, Monday 3 June, marks the beginning of Volunteers’ Week. It’s a time for charities, voluntary groups, social organisations, and volunteers themselves to come together, and recognise the incredible impact that volunteering has on communities around the UK.

I wanted to use this week to reach out and say a big thank you, from me and everyone at The MS Society.

MS Awareness Week 2024 round up

In April we once again marked MS Awareness Week. For the second year running we partnered with six MS charities, including MS Trust and MS Together, and launched a united campaign, MS Unfiltered.

Celebrate Volunteers’ Week with us

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week. It kicks off on Monday 3 June and runs until Sunday 9 June.

Volunteers’ Week is a time for charities, voluntary groups, social organisations, and volunteers themselves to come together. And it’s a time to recognise the incredible impact that volunteering has on communities around the UK.

We'll be doing lots to showcase the incredible impact our volunteers have on the MS community, and we'd love for you to be involved.

Key features of Assemble, our new volunteer management system

This month, we wanted to share with you some of the key features of Assemble, our new volunteer management system (VMS), which is launching later this year. Wherever we can, we’ve built the system to simplify processes our volunteers complete.

Assemble will also take on much of the functionality currently held within the Portal and volunteer website. Both of these sites will retire at the end of the year once we have Assemble up and running.

Project Mead community research launch

An introduction to community research work from Emily Perriam, Head of Volunteering and Community Networks

Last month, we shared information about a new project kicking off at the MS Society. Project Mead is looking at how we deliver our services, how we innovate them to offer more choices, and how we can further support the MS community. Ultimately, we want to improve and increase our reach to positively impact more people. And volunteers play a huge part in how we do that.
