100k Your Way

We’ve got a challenge that will spring our supporters into action up and down the UK even though social distancing guidelines are still in place and we can’t fundraise the way we normally would... 100k Your Way!

What is it?

Our Fundraising Team has been working hard to bring back our 100K Your Way challenge, and this summer it's bigger and better than ever!

We’re encouraging everyone to get involved and, as volunteers, you are so vital to our fundraising.

Our plans to Stop MS

Earlier this year, we asked our amazing community to once more get behind our Stop MS Appeal to help find treatments for everyone with MS. Read about the appeal here. We were delighted to introduce Octopus, our revolutionary mega-trial for progressive MS. Find out more about Octopus here.

Calling for extra measures to be put in place for vulnerable staff returning to work

We’ve joined a coalition of 18 charities – including Kidney Care UK and Blood Cancer UK – to call on employers to put extra measures in place for vulnerable staff going back to work.

This is in light of growing evidence that the COVID-19 vaccines provide less protection to some people with a weakened immune response due to a specific health condition or treatment.

Restarting face-to-face group services and activities (now including some fundraising) – Latest update

As you know, England, Scotland and Wales have recently announced a delay to their planned dates for lifting further/remaining COVID restrictions. It's likely that Northern Ireland will do likewise. We expect further announcements on:

  • England – 5 July

  • N Ireland – 17 June (but no information at time of writing)

  • Scotland – 21 June

  • Wales – 15 July

Restarting face-to-face group services and activities – latest update

Since mid-April, we’ve been holding Zoom sessions to explain the new processes and paperwork our groups need to use if they wish to restart certain face-to-face services and social activities. Thanks to everyone who’s attended, submitted their documents via the Portal and had their restarts approved. We hope our volunteers, members and service users will enjoy being together once again, as soon as they feel safe to do so.

Board and Council recruitment

Are you seeking a new volunteering challenge? Or do you know somebody who is?

We’re looking for people with marketing and fundraising expertise to join our Board of Trustees. Trustees play a critical role in setting our strategic direction, supporting and challenging the Executive Group, and setting and upholding our values and culture.

Working to increase our diversity

Would you like the opportunity to feed back your thoughts on our draft Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy?

We have ambitious plans to increase our diversity and make the MS Society a more inclusive place to work, to volunteer and to be involved. As part of this goal, we’ve created a draft EDI Strategy that outlines where we are now and where we want to get to.

On Monday 14 June, from 5-6.30pm, we’ll be hosting a conversation where you can have a say in what you think of the plans as we continue to develop them.

Volunteers’ Week round up

We’ve been celebrating Volunteers’ Week by posting on our website and social media about what you do, how you do it, the impact you’re making and the support you give to people affected by MS.

Here’s a round-up of all the great messages and stories we’ve had the pleasure of sharing so far this week.

Stories

Each day this week we’ve been promoting the stories of different volunteers talking about what led them to volunteer, the challenges they faced, and what helping others has also given to them.

Carers Week

Next week, starting on 7 June, is Carers Week! Carers Week was established by Carers UK more than 25 years ago. It’s an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Carers across the UK are continuing to face new challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. And many people are taking on more caring responsibilities for their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or older and who need support.
