It’s important that all fundraising activity on behalf of, or in aid of the MS Society meets our fundraising standards and the legal requirements of the fundraising sector.
This online presentation will give you an insight into what fundraising standards are, where you can find them and the support available to you to make sure the fundraising you do with us is legal and safe.
If you prefer to print and read this presentation offline, a distance learning pack and a recording of our podcast are available.
Being legal and safe
It's essential that you have an understanding of how to keep your fundraising legal and safe, including knowing the difference between ‘in aid of’ and ‘on behalf of’ fundraising, being clear about your insurance and risk management responsibilities, licenses, cash collections, school events and funding MS research.
The Fundraising Regulator
The Fundraising Regulator sets and maintains the standards for charitable fundraising in the UK. They ensure that fundraising is respectful, open, honest and accountable to the public. All MS Society fundraising must comply with their standards. This includes how we deal with complaints about fundraising.
Ethics, transparency and accountability
Anyone fundraising for us must help ensure that the MS Society acts ethically and transparently, and is accountable to donors. To achieve this, we have five important ethical principles you must follow when raising funds.
